Thanks to Dennis(Backwoods Savage) and my other friends at Hearth.com I just received free samples of Super Cedar from Northwestern Fuels. I also want to thank NW Fuel for sending me 2 Super Cedar for free.

They almost look like ground round, hamburger patties. Not to worry boys I am not that hungry. I am still waiting PATIENTLY for chimney guy to come out and install chimney to stove. Hopefully it will be tomorrow?

I just had the last of 6 face cord of Ash delivered yesterday. I have a total of 11 face cord in all, which includes, 5 face cord of oak from a week ago.

I know that it was a late start in the season for burning wood but at least I have a head start on next season, God Willing...

I just burned about 1/4 of a supercedar. That plus some actual cedar kindling and the fire is back up and running after I unloaded the ashes. i think it looks more like a crab cake than a burger.

Right on Fredo! I bought a 100 pack of the super cedars this year and love them! I find that a 1/4 is all you need and also found if I score an X into the cedar while still in the package they snap cleanly and make less mess this way.. I place the SC between two splits which form a Vee with a split over the top and the air blows across the SC and the logs light right off..

Ya, now that we started using them I'd hate to be without! Thanks Thomas.

I am happy when they showed up in the mail Dennis. Who knows when my stove and chimney will be done and I am sure glad that I didn't have to hold my breath waiting for this chimney install....

Best thing since slided bread when we are in the shoulder season.

Gamma Ray,

As soon as I can light my Super Cedar Rounds up I will probably order more. But for now I am still waiting for stove hook up...

Fredo,

Break them into quarters, and extend those suckers. No need for a full puck. At least not with good seasoned wood.

Shawneyboy, I will take your advice and ration super cedars. I am curious how those things burn and if my chimney install doesn't happen soon I am gonna light a portion of super cedar anyway. I like to see how these things work...

Thanks to NW Fuels from here, as well. I just received 2 free samples and was going to use one this evening but I still had a coal bed from 6 am today. They are bigger than I expected. Also looks like something to keep on hand in case of an emergency. I'll be buying a box of these.

Boom stick, you are correct. Super cedars would be an awesome asset in case of an emergency. I am putting super cedar into action tomorrow when I light my first fire in my new stove, nice...

Damn, Fredo you're gonna be a wood burning guru before you even strike a match to the 1st fire in your new stove! Gotta love that! :cheese:

Ordered my first SC's this year - 100 count. Hope to make the 100 last 4 years (24/7 here) - only need them for starting fires early and late season (although this year, the early season was quite long!). Cheers!

Raybonz, i am a burning guru thanks to all the great folk here at hearth! Really, the fascination with wood burning started years ago when me and my brother used to LIGHT our backyard fort on fire! Don't know why we did it, we just did.

Fort burns were always controlled and put out before we burned it down to the ground because if my mother found out we were DEAD!

Than there were the massive Bon fires my uncle joe had at his cottage up north in Gaylord Michigan. Bon fires were ginormous only because I kept throwing firewood into it while my cousins sat on stumps shooting the breeze. Uncle joe gave me free range over fire and I had a blast!

Years have past and I find myself on hearth.com where I have met you and some of the nicest individuals in the world! Really, you guys are like family and I really appreciate your help and kindness. Having this back injury is a little easier knowing that you guys got my back, literally!

Ah indeed, SuperCedars, the Rolls Royce of firestarters. I've bought 2 100pk boxes of them so far when they had a sale. I think I might be set for life.
They made quick work of the underseasoned firewood I had available for the fireplace at the resort condo where I stayed last week in the mountains. Good thing I had 'em cause there were no firestarters in there, just matches.

I once, to answer another poster's question here some time ago, took ¼ of a Super Cedar outside and placed it on the bottom of an upturned bucket and lit it. It burned for 20 minutes until the last hint of a flame vanished. If your wood isn't gonna start burning in 20 minutes, you need some different wood. Super Cedars are the best thing since split wood. I will absolutely guarantee that!

A Big Thanks to them as they sent me 2 free samples. I tried a 1/4 of a puck last night and was pretty impressive.

Anymore Ideas on quartering them?

Thanks Again!!!

Catspaw, and to think I was going to cut super cedar into fours with my chainsaw, lol. This is a much better idea and thanks for sharing that video with the rest of the gang here at Hearth.com

Thanks
Freo

The only problem I have with SC is that when I go camping and don't have them with me. Everyone expects a blazing fire in a few minutes. I think I forgot how to start fires with newspaper.
