Hamers from Kenova WV? I though they only had Elkins and Mt hope???

Did they start a new plant?? Might want to pass along your findings. Could help them fix this and keep things in check!

Not sure about that Jay but thats the address on the bag, a PO Box so maybe its corporate headquarters or something. Just rechecked the bag and it does say made in Mt Hope, WV.

This is the reply I got from Hamer. I will provide the information as I get it. So you know I bought the pellets from BT Pellets in Bristol. I have bought pellets from BT for years now and as we all should know they are not responsible in any way for whats in the bags. I am providing this information so anyone who may have purchased Hamer pellets from BT will be a little cautious, especially if you just cut the bag open and pour them into the hopper as I do/did!

Tony,

Thank you for sending us pictures of what you found in your pellets. We are going to contact the plant asap about this to try and find out what happened.

Can you tell us where you got the pellets & if it has a plant location on the bag where it was manufactured? We have 2 pellet plants so this will help us narrow it down. We will let you know what we find out.

We appreciate your feedback and letting us know when there is a problem so we can maintain a high quality pellet that our customers have come to expect.

Kind regards,

Lori Hamer

They seem to reply promply. Lets hope they get this stuff in check!

It is good to pass along the issues we see to them, We seem to be the ones keeping things in check. Hard to explain, But if we just let this stuff slide it may only get worse. We pay good money for these and don't deserve the slips in quality. There is no excuse for anything less than whats suposed to be a standard. Thanks for contacting and sending them the info. Lets hope we don't see this from them again!

We usually don't see the Mt. Hope stuff in CT. Its usually the Elkins. I have always seen good stuff from that plant. Maybe its Mt. Hope that needs to get its quality stuff in check.

wow... Ive never seen that out here on westcaost... the plants here bag everything they produce and QC is important.
I hope I never do. Sorry to see this.

+1

Also, I'd have no qualms, naming a manufacturer who allows debris to get packed with their pellets!

Dave

Strangest thing in a bag for me were the plastic packing peanuts! Talk about clogging up the auger! One more reason I went to the sifter! Oh, and the NOT SO STRANGE thing I found in the lousy Carolina Wood Pellets is this:

Had a whole ton of pellets last year that averaged 2", with some at 3". Sucked. Bad.

Did a repair on a stove, found a cell phone charger in the hopper. Wire was wrapped around the auger. The charger was not the home owner. 2 older people no young kids, had to come from the pellet factory.

Found a large nut in my burn pot two seasons ago, no issues with the auger so far. I try to pay more attention now as I pour them into the hopper.

Materials are about $20 for the PVC, Dowel rods, and Gutter gaurd. Search "Pellet Sifter" in the top search box. Plenty of results.

Doesn't that just sift/vacuum out the fines?

I emailed Carolina Wood Pellets twice plus sent them samples and NEVER got a reply. Then sent another letter saying Adios! Also let their local retailer know how I felt.

Yes. But you watch every single pellet go in (have to dump kinda slow-cant just "pour" them out) and then watch every one drop into the 5 gallon bucket. Besides going through a small 2" PVC pipe and then maneuvering through the pieces of dowel rod at the bottom. You stop as soon as you see anything.

Found a bolt, plastic bits, small pieces of steel, and lots of Corn.....

You see everything thats in the bag. But, yes, it just sifts fines, along with giving you a visual of every pellet. I plan to incorporate the sifter I have with tnj's sifter and make a Hybrid of sorts.

This thread is making me nervous now! I usually just 'dump' the bag into the hopper without notice.
Don't just dump em in...You must sift&search;. Seriously, I know this guy who's cousin has a neighbor who's friends brother went to school with a girl who's dad opened up a bag of Inferno and when he dumped it into the hopper there was a 1973 Volkswagon Beetle in the bag mixed in with the pellets. Now THAT could have jammed the auger!

If it was a red Volkswagon, I think I may have bought it from that guy! Full of saw dust it was.

The Volkswagon I would shrug off, But if johnny was in the front seat? That would scare the sheet out of me!

You guys find some funny things in there, Really an 8x10 picture???

I provided Hamer with the information they requested, got an e-mail back thanking me and saying they will look into and get back to me. I will keep you posted.
