Feeling the Heat

The other Cape..
started burning my ton of cubex and I'm bummed that they are more ash and are burning awful. i picked up this ton last April at a spring buy and have always had luck with them.

weird because even the shoulder pellets are burning better then theses!

no storage issues or problem's because my okies are right next to them and burn awesome.

I guess batch to batch you never know

Late winter-early spring some of the cubex buyers were complaining just that. Seems they missed something and were not as good as the fall batches. Most dealers will work with the customers if issues arise. I'd contact them and see if they had others complaining. Maybe they will swap them out for something else?

This happens when the fiber crunch comes. What I heard from the birdies is less Oak fiber in the mix and more maple and other hardwoods. These other hardwoods caintain more ash content. Most likely less BTU's as well. A shame really! Great pellet when up to snuff!

makes sense because my previous ton was great as always. unfortunately i doubt the dealer will help.

its a real shame because i really have gotten spoiled with them. love everything about them little fines great bags and low ash and the heat.

just not this ton

Bought a ton recently and they are fine -- no issues here -- bought them around the beginning of november.

Are there dates on cubex bags, i have never seen them before?

I will go to the piggy stash and look

I got my Cubex at the spring sale I think in may, and am glad to report no problems so far. Seems hot and keeps my glass quite clean, I will say maybe more ash than I expected but it's hotter than the Energex green bag I burned last year thats for sure, if this is a bad batch I can't wait to try the normal stuff!

Up on the left corner. There is a date below the black stripe. Its the bags printing date, But usually close to the date they fill them.

Mine says 550961... that's not any kind of date format, do you know how to decode that?

Cubex had an issue with some timber harvested in an area that had high mineral content in the soil. Basically the trees grew with dirt in them. We had some of them and questioned it and was told they stopped using that supplier for pellet material. I don't think many pellets got out in that time but it only takes one bag to make people notice something is wrong.

When I recently had my stove installled and was looking at different pellet brands, I called a former co-worker who's been burning pellets for a few years. He told me that he bought 5 tons of Cubex last spring and had serious issues with the quality of the batch. He complained to his local dealer who got him in touch with someone at Cubex an they stood behind the product by delivering another 5 tons to his house free of charge. He now has 5 tons of "shoulder" Cubex and 5 tons of the good stuff stashed in his basement.

I have lots of cubex out in the garage that I ordered in the spring buy. They seem to have ok heat but alot more ash than I was expecting and it's heavy ash!
Code on bag is 549607.

Oh boy were did you purchase them, seems like a pattern here

You never posted the date code... can you do that? I'm curious.

Not sure what that code is or how to decifer it. I though it was a date code. But That was a while ago when I did my test on them. My Cubex are buried. I'll dig to get them this weekend and post whats on my ton.

Meneillys is a pellet dealer and found out some goodies on NEWP's batch/date code. Maybe he can get some info on the cubex? Interesting stuff on the tree's. I heard a pellet mill down south had issues with some fiber that came from trees grown in a swamp. I guess the "you are what you eat" applies to trees as well! ;-)

seems like the spring batch was not up to Cubex high standards, the ash it produces is alot, about two cleanings in 40 bags for me, and its not quite "clinkers" but not fluffy either. It's to bad I'm glad I got the spring price but I choose Cubex over other good name brands and there not where they should be on that good pellet level.

update! called my dealer and told him what was going on and he said he will try and work something out with me, which will be great if i get another ton, that i hope is like all the other cubex that i burn before.

only thing is I'm going to have to mix the present which will be a pain in the butt.

Or maybe i could just get another new stove and convince the wife!

Did you buy them at BT? I'm thinking of picking some up and want to make sure they have new stock and not the questionable spring stuff.

Contacted Cubex more than a week ago, and have heard zero from them. Was trying not to bother my local dealer as it's not his fault but looks like I have to go through him afterall.

spoke with my dealer(bt), and they were nice about it , however they hadn't herd a peep from anyone so far. They said they were selling newer Cubex at this time and that most of there spring sales are return Cubex buyer's, who you would think at this point in the year had burned enough to know if they had a issue. I have never used Cubex, so I don't know what normal is with this pellet, but I do think mine are hot enough, just more ash than I thought. They said to call back when temps really fall, that will be a good time to see if there working good, if I think there's a issue then , they will help deal with Cubex, they told me normally I would have to send some sample pellets to Cubex so they could take a look and make sure there not up to there standards.

I usually buy in the spring during the sales. I once had an issue and the dealer I got them from said they couldn't do anything for me because I waited to long to report the issue. I don't sit on them until the following season now. I always burn a few bags of each ton just to see how they do. Better to know right away if there is an issue with them.

numbers stamped on my bags say 549607 << bought from BT in November

I see a pattern developing.

Mine are 550961, higher number, so later production date? I dunno... maybe I don't have the "good" cubex either?
