Curt just cleaned the chimney on the new Oslo. Does anyone have any tips? He is saying "There has to be a better way."
Brushing out the chimney pipe was no problem, it was when he took off the top stove plate and tried to get the resulting creosote out by reaching in with his gloved hand, grabbing a handful and putting it in a coal shovel that he made his statement. I checked the manual, and no mention of that area under cleaning. Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks! Vicky

If it is free standing... remove stove pipe at collar. scoop/vac from the top.

Did he take the actual top of the stove off? Or the oval center of the top? Or what did he do?

For me, I take the whole top off the Oslo once a year to clean it out. The top comes off easy, and sits back down easy. I'm careful to not disturb the gasket and not disturb the wool insulation on top the baffle. It's really quite easy.

Take the oval piece off the bolts are allready off for cleanig right (its in the manuel) stick vacume cleaner hose in suck out, replace oval piece your done.

He took the oval plate off and then reached back in from there. Now he is thinking about looking for one of those metal fireplace vacuums...

I use a regular vacume but before that YOU MUST MAKE sure it's cool.

Thanks, that's what he needed to know.

Just looking at you signature you have 6 wood heating devices in your house????

Lol, that's our entire heating history..... It's toasty enough with the Oslo!
I will try to make it clearer. V.

I only clean out the top above the baffle and the flue once a year . . . but when I do so it is after several weeks have passed so there is not as much of a risk of using a shop vac and having any unplanned emergencies . . . like others I remove the oval plate and start sucking.
