Hey I'm just being an equal opportunity bear, iI also hit Waterbug as there is no need for a scope if you have a Mark 1 eyeball and open sights.

When you're huntin' possum, you put that "scope" on the barrel of your gun and not in a wooden barrel full of pellets. Try putting a "scoop" in that wooden barrel, it will work better.

No scope needed for either the barrel with the pellets in it or on the barrel of the gun, open iron sights work just fine on the gun, and a scoop works fine on the pellets.

Speaking of which, Santa is bringing me a Marlin 22 for Christmas. I have a 12 Guage and a 410 Coach Gun, but a plunker is a nice gun to have.

I tried shooting wood pellets from my pellet gun, didn't work too well. When I complained to the gun dealer, he suddenly had business in the back room….never got around to discussing a pellet scope with him...

First of all, anyone with OCD knows it should be CDO, in proper order. Now that's settled, I used to fill only when needed ( I have a leveled line drawn in my hopper to know EXACTLY when an entire bag will fit in my 60lb hopper. However as time has gone on (3 yrs now) I have the BUG. Fondling, checking, unreasonably long and verbose explainations of how the stove works to guests and the like. Then there's the draft setting. Checked twice before bed just to be sure I'm at peak performance. But its worse than that. I now know that if I shut the stove down before a shower in the morning, as soon as I'm done, I can do a quick sweep of the burnpot, restart the stove and by the time I leave for work its running and I can reposition my web cam to be sure I can skype in to check on my baby during the day.

Hey decent looking flock, mine are currently rather bedraggled looking all but one are in various stages of molt.

To be on topic chicken keepers are compulsive about their birds, so having them fits in with the pellet illness.

My 10-CPM manual instructs to shut down the stove before opening the hopper door to prevent hopper fires. I'm certain that all stoves give a similar warning. That being the case, isn't it a laborious chore as well as time consuming, to continuously check and level your pellets?

My manual says to keep the hopper lid closed unless filling it.

Nah, my Croix has no such warning. I have left the hopper door open for a few minutes at times, no smoke, no problems. I check my pellets every couple of hours or so, whenever I'm near the stove. I fill it to the top before going to bed, check first thing in the morning. Yeah, I have the disease, too...

Wow. You guys make me feel so much better about myself. I haven't felt "normal" since I got the stove installed 16 days ago. I'm always coming up with excuses to check on the stove and then impulsively find myself opening the hopper and leveling the pellets. I've lost count how many times a day I do that now. Pellet level must always be at LEAST 75% full! Depending on the day, I mound it all in the center or like today, it looked best all smooth out and leveled. I also bought a hopper extension for my stove however have not found a need to use it yet. Actually, I realized that if I put the extension on, I will have even less of an excuse to top it off. I didn't think that purchase through and now have buyer's remorse with that extension. These damn pellets, so freaking addictive! I can't control myself!! Whether in the bags or in the hopper, I find the need to fondle!! LOL!

Pardon my ignorance, but for the stoves that recommend not opening the hopper while burning, do these stoves have positive pressure burn chambers? Meaning does the combustion fan blow air INTO the chamber rather than suck the exaust OUT?

No it isn't limited to positive pressure stoves and it isn't always about possible hopper fires. Some stoves can not cope with any unplanned for air bypasses these stoves will have degraded burning going on with the hooper door open, then there is the the certification testing method used, then there is the issue of not having any chance of smoke exiting the stove via the hopper.

In short there are a number of reasons for the various differences in instruction.

Most stoves that don't want the stove going when the lid is open also have a hopper lid switch that kills power to the auger(s) to stop fuel flow. Having the lid open for too long leads to stove shut down.

Well my fingers are always hitting the wrong key twice and spell check has no problem with hooper. But it does have a problem with problemm or probleem.

The o and p are too close together and I have huge paws (with very sharp claws).

I must be the only one that thinks filling the hopper and periodic cleanings is just another PIA thing to do around the house , but it sure as heck beats burning cordwood.

i used to be like that. had a small hopper. only held *almost* 1 bag but not quite. checked it 4 times a day in dead of winter. ran out overnight a few times. that was a horrid experience. shelled out for the hopper extension. now holds almost 4 bags. i fill it before bed every evening or i check it when i get home from work if its the dead of winter.

stove is on a t-stat now so if it hasnt been that cold, i open the hopper and am disappointed if i dont get to fill it. i'll mound them in the middle as well just so it wasnt a wasted trip.
