So I'm trying to convince the wife to let me put a pellet insert in the fireplace downstairs. But she likes the "look" of a real fire. Anyone feel that there is an insert that has a more realistic looking fire? I know that is about the LAST thing that matters in a stove, in the interest in domestic harmony I have to ask....

I think the Enviro M55 cast insert has the most realistic fire.

I agree

If she likes the look of a real fire so much, hand the ax and chainsaw to her and point her to the nearest dead tree. Then go have a beer. BUT LOCK THE DOOR! :)

OK. Lots of great suggestions:

1) Buy an 55
2) Send wifey into the woods
3) Have a beer

not necessarily in that order.

I knew I could count on this group for sound advice.

See you at the local Enviro Dealer!!!!!

But you just gave her the burglar tool kit.

Get a fireplace screensaver for the computer screen or a fireplace dvd for the tv and get whatever stove you want!

My Enviro M55 is my first stove therefor I have to say its the best! But if I was Donald Trump, I would say: This is Huge, HUGE!

You just pissed her off AND gave her an ax and a chainsaw!?!? You'd best move to another state, no locked door is gonna slow her down.

handing a woman an axe and chainsaw AND
then pi$$ing her off

not a good idea at all

Never said I was the brightest candle in the church > wife with ax......

From what I've seen in pictures and YouTube's, the bottom feeders have a bed of coals versus the top feeders trickle feed the pellets. Hence, I imagine that's why bottom feeders look more like a real wood fire. Right?

I think the opposite.

I have both.

Bad choice of words. Ha ha ha.

Close the damper and run it dirty. They all get a big fat lazy dirty flame that resembles a log fire very well. Of course, within a hour or two you wont see the fire through the glass anymore anyway. :p
Mike -

You want to heat the house, or make it look nice? Rika Integra II all the way as far as an insert goes for good quiet reliable heat. Looks like fire inside of the burn pot to me.
I don't have to turn up the TV either.
