Just thought I'd let y'all know that my BMF (aka the Progress Hybrid) is here. I went to the freight dock and picked it up today. Will un-crate it tomorrow morning and see just how much work I'm gonna have to do to install it. I'll let y'know how it goes. Later y'all--

Congrat TB, can't wait for pix.

I'm on the edge of my keyboard. :)

Bout time ya had some wood heat in that place old son.

Would have been nice this week I bet.

Congrats Tex look forward to the pics! I am wondering how cold Texas gets? The PH puts out a lot of BTU's..

Ray--Last week, it got down to +7 F here 25 miles NW of Lubbock with WC 12 below. The all-time low temp for Lubbock is -17 and it wasn't the lowest in the region. South of here it got to -26, so it can, and does, get cold. We regularly get down into the single digits and frequently at or below zero in these parts, so we definitely get colder than most people think. HOWEVER, at Padre Island while we're at 20 they can easily be at 80, so it depends entirely WHERE you are as to how cold it gets. Texas is a big place.

When I was growing up in West Texas Dad used to say there was nothing between us and the North Pole but a barbed wire fence. And it had blown down.

Congrats, and WOW! That's colder than we've had so far this fall here in this part of Maine!

Terry, where in Sam Hill have you been? Good to see you finally came back. We were so hoping you'd fly in to the Woodstock Open House in October but understand why that got blown off. Would have been nice to finally meet you though. So get that BMF stove up and running. We were really impressed while at the Open House. It will be a while yet before we get outs.

Bart I can see where you got your sense of humor from.. Funny stuff.. Heck it's tropical here compared to Texas at least this year so far!

'Course, maybe you're right smart, 'cause th' out o' state folks wun't a'knowed whut it wuz if'n you'd a'said "bob war"! LOL LOL LOL!

Yeah. I haven't said I was in the all biness or spoke of bar ditches in a few years either. ;-)

Hey, Dennis, nice to be back. Sorry I've been out, but it's been an interesting year. First, my father died late March, then my daughter shipped out to boot at Fort Wood, then was assigned to Fort Bliss. Hadn't even processed in until she volunteered to deploy to Afghanistan. That's why we got shot down on coming to the Open House. I really wanted to go really badly and was trying to figure out a way up until the last minute. Katie was scheduled to deploy 18 Oct and had three weeks leave to spend at home, which she did and we had tons of stuff to get done before she left. We went to Bliss to see her off on the 18th, but they had to ground all the transport aircraft so they rescheduled to 30 October. That time she DID deploy and now she's an MP in Afghanistan. The weekend of the Open House, we went to Bliss to bring her home for leave. But I tell you for sure, I really wanted to come and meet all you other screwballs and it would have been the perfect time. Rats! No idea when a chance like THAT will ever come again. I'm sure y'all had a great time. Hated to miss it.

Hope you're doin' okay. Stay warm this winter--looks like y'all are in the cross-hairs for winter this year. Later--

Got the BMF in the house and was takin' the last of the crate off and the left front leg just fell off!! That's the corner where the crate was kinda bashed and the boards were all loose. Must have crunched it in the freight trip. I tried to call Ron, but was 6 minutes past their closing time. After looking it over, it appears to be vulnerable to most anything that might stress one of those legs. They are long and not too substantial AND they're held on with only one bolt in a very weak looking design. I'll have to get a photo tomorrow and post it. Seems to be for a stove weighing 750 lbs. the leg should be more substantial, especially since it's made of cast iron which is susceptible to breakage. I was flabergasted to see only one bolt and the tab it was in to hold the leg with that kind of weight. IMO, should be at least two bolts and in solid metal all around.

So, we're dead in the water with a snow storm a'comin'. Y'all better tie your bonnets on tight 'cause it's a'comin' your way (NE) after it's finished with us!

NOW you're talkin' where I kin underSTAN' yuh! 'Preciate it! ROFL!

Better git that stove a crankin. I just saw this.

"Between 12 and 15 inches of snow is expected to fall on portions of the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles bringing near-blizzard-like conditions to the area Monday.
The heaviest snowfall and strongest winds are expected Monday morning through Monday night and Tuesday, the weather service said.

North winds of 20 to 30 mph will accompany the snow for much of the storm. Frequent wind gusts of 35 to 45 mph will also be possible, according to the weather service."

Terry, we were told you had to cancel but kept watching that airport across the road just in case you found time at the last minute. Had a beer waiting for you too. Maybe next year you could fly out because we sort of expect a repeat next year with maybe a few more new things. Definitely get hold of Ron on those legs. It should not be too late to do some changing on them but getting crushed during shipment can do in some really super strong stuff too so I wouldn't worry too much. Good luck on plowing that snow too. WE haven't pushed too much of it around just yet and hope to have a light snow season. I'm betting on it but we've not had much ice for many years now so hope we don't get much of that again. I'll take 2 feet of snow over 1/2" of ice any day.

Hi Terry:

I think you are the third case of a broken leg on the Progress. They will have to support it better with timber under the frame and not rely on the legs while in transit. I agree, seems strange only one bolt holds those legs on.

I'm sure they will send one out ASAP - I'm going to double check my stove's legs, it's still in the crate in my garage, waiting for the movers. It's much too heavy for me.

I guess your wood is now 101 years old, so it should be plenty dry by now!

Keep us posted.

Tony

Isn't a broken leg lucky? %-P Good to see you back.

Ha Ha, Todd! Very funny! I s'pose it's lucky, 'cept when m'stove cain't work on account of it. Sure are gonna use a lot of propane 'cause of that broken leg!

Thanks, it's good to be "back". Seems like forever since I was able to "chew the fat" with y'all!
