Burning Hunk

Jotul 550 installed today. Glad I didn't tackle myself, took 2 installers about 4 hours. About 2 of those hours were spent trying to connect pipe to stove, very stubborn. In their defense, there was only about 1 inch of clearance on top which didn't help matters. First fire is just dying down, got up to about 300 degrees which I think is about right for a first burn. Smell not too bad so far. Looking forward to second fire in the morning! I feel like I finally joined the woodburning club, feeling like a kid again! Thanks for all the great tips, I'm sure I will be back looking for tips in the near future.

Looks nice, thanks for sharing your photos.

Gorgeous insert, install, and house! Congrats

Looks great! I love the brown enamel finish. Just in time. I'm sure you'll get a lot of heat out of that monster. This winter will be fun. It's funny how your perspective on cold weather changes when you're burning in a new stove. Enjoy.

Looks awesome !!

You're going to be very happy :)

Those are beautiful inserts! Congrats!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate all of the nice comments. Second fire is just burning down, got up to around 450. Do I let her rip tonight?

I just got my woodstove installed also....just follow the break in guidelines, and when your done...yes let it rip. Enjoy heat, beautiful pictures.

Me likes, this fits the decor perfectly. Happy heating and enjoy the flame shows!

Congrats! Enjoy the feeling of being warmed to your core with the heat of burning wood!

That really improved the appearance and will also improve the heating. Congratulations.

Wow! That looks really sharp! And a sliding door right next to it for grabbing wood too. Nice set-up!

Congrats! Looks great. Enjoy the heat!

Thanks again everyone! So yesterday was my first experience burning in a stove of any type. My only experience burning wood has been my wide open fireplace. All I can say is WOW!!! These things are incredible. I am amazed at how easy it was to start and maintain the fire. Coincidentally, yesterday was probably the coldest day we have had so far, oil burner barely kicked on! I obviously have a lot to learn still, gave my wife a quick lesson last night because she will be loading during the day. Proud to say that I had enough heat and coals this morning at 6am to load back up with no kindling after loading around 10:30 last night! Guess I can say I got my first "overnight burn". Happy burning everyone, and happy holidays!!

That is a really great looking insert!!!! I love those enamaled surfaces.

your insert looks great. I am hoping to install my new rockland tomorrow if the rain holds off. my original insert got damaged in the tornadoes back in April here. i sure hope i don't have to deal with this statement from your post: there was only about 1 inch of clearance on top which didn’t help matters. haha

I've got about 1" clearance too until you get about 3 inches into the fireplace. then it opens up.

I'll be slathering a nice layer of crown coat up top. have you folks had good luck with that product?

Brian

Very nice looking install . . .

Thanks, mellow! No steel plate, just a bunch of Roxul. Seems to be working pretty well, bricks above insert are pretty toasty.

Beautiful stove! It completely transformed the room... I bet everyone is going to spend MUCH more time in this room from now on... Congradulation and enjoy.
