Great big window- for a spectacular view of fire. The insert is solidly constructed and looks great. The brass door is easy to clean and much more durable than the micro thin gold plating alternative which eventually fade to a chrome look. The 6"x24" cooking surface is ideal for a 1/2 kettle to add extra humidity to the room.
The front on the stove can take a 24" log but the stove is tapered toward the back and can only take an 18" log. This is not a big deal unless all your wood is cut to 24" lengths. Overnight burns are more like 9-10 hours with oak not the 10-12 published.
My insert is located in the basement of my split level and easily heats the bottom two levels. The upstairs level gets just enough heat to be comfortable. Heat control is real simple with the single control rod and variable speed blower. The Freedom insert is a great stove. My only regret is waiting so long to get it.
