This home was built for us in 2002. Builder reccomended a Ventless fireplace that was installed on an outside wall. The fireplace, suddenly, emitted lots of soot. This soot was picked up by the heat pump vents and distributed throughout our two story home. Noone seems interested in determining the cause of this problem. On our insistance, the builder obtained new logs for us. There is still soot coming from the fireplace. We now have a piece of white paper hanging over the mantle with a piece post it note stuck to it. The area under the post it note is clean. The rest of the paper isn't. Help, we don't have any idea what to do now. Amerigas who installed the gas heat unit at the builders request tested the pressure and said it was correct at 12 1/2 is O.K. They also said had the fireplace been purchased from them they would repair or replace it. The builder seems to be having problems getting anyone to deal with the problem. How do I find out what is wrong and correct the problem?
