Unable to adjust locking cam without twisting and breaking handle (6 handles and counting). Impossible to keep tight seal across top of solid brass door. Door sags at 45 degree angle from hinges necessitating use of mall to beat hinges into proper alignment. Air leaks around viewing glass. Pins holding secondary burn tubes do not lock front tube in fixed position allowing tube to rotate with airholes facing upward.Twelve hour burn times are non-existant; 4-5 hours actual overnight burn time. Fire bricks crumbling, dealer says to reverse them placing back of brick into fire.Factory rep says wood not big enough & not placed tightly into fire-box to insure long overnight burn time. Insert not heating whole house as claimed especially second floor. Dealer and factory rep say to turn Reversed ceiling fans off allowing heat to rise to second floor. Before purchase we were told by dealer and factory ENGINEERS that our existing 8 inch flue pipe should work. This worked too well causing "runaway draft" condition. A replacement insert and 6 inch flue pipe was installed Sept. 2002. Overdraft problem corrected. ALL previously stated air leaks, door/hinge problems re-occurred during 4 months of non-continuous use of NEW insert.
Travis Industries and dealer tell us we have NO warranty remaining on this appliance; we can't be satisfied and are impossible to deal with no matter what is done. Dealer offered us $1000 pro-rata; dealer will come and remove ALL installed materials and insert and we are all done, finished. This after a total expenditure of $3865 in 3.5 years on this insert. This Lopi Freedom insert replaced our 16 plus years old "Treemont" insert which DID heat our complete home (up & Down) with the ceiling fans running in reverse.
What a shame the OLD technology beats the EPA mandated NEW technology. This is no excuse for poor quality and unit flaws beyond our control. Travis Industries and the dealer claim they have NEVER had these problems with any of their products in the field. NOTE: dealer came and removed the Fredom insert, gave us check for $1000 refusing to remove the 6 inch pipe as it would take over 2 hours. His prior agreement meant meant nothing. Travis Industries, Inc. and The Woodstove Shop definitely do NOT receive our endorsement nor shall we ever do business with either of them again.
