Likes: UPDATE! After about four years of running this unit it still will not heat the whole house as advertised. It will not burn overnight no matter the wood or technique. The steel unit is adequate. The firebricks have never fit properly and continually get knocked off into fire. The unit was shipped without the adjusting legs and the retailer will not furnish them. The manufacturer has refused to make any adjustments. The Breckwell Company appears much more concerned with their pellet stoves than their single model inadequate and poorly designed and manufactured wood burning insert. I also have a free standing Osborn 1600, the quality design and overall fitting are greatly superior to the Breckwell!
I recommend any prospective buyer to avoid the Breckwell 300I. Having had experience with the company representatives and their lack of serious interest in servicing their product or customer satisfaction I advise any prospective buyers to avoid this company! Their more highly rated pellet stoves are maybe better designed and produced, but heaven help the buyer if he has a problem that involves the company. I highly recommend Osburn, Quadrafire, Blaze King or some other highly rated wood burning fire place insert over a Breckwell 3000I, I cannot over emphasis, it is junk!!!

Dislikes: Lack of adjusting legs causes me to use brick to adjust insert height. Seal is currently falling apart. Often with slower burning woods or greener woods the unit forms much creosote within the top of the unit. Front glass has broken once, replaced at $100.00. Appears to be a inferior combustion chamber design particularly when compared to Osburn unit. Seems to burn about twice the amount of the same type of wood the Osburn 1600 does. Firebox is small, the Osburn devours pieces of oak which will not fit into the door of the Breckwell. The fan has now worn out and I am not sure if I should try to replace it or not. The fan is a noisy poorly engineered (as is the entire unit) unit. Glass continually blackens up. I intend to run this unit through winter 2005/2006 supplemented by a gas heater. This will cut my losses. After this winter, I will likely sell as make best offer!

Comments: This company represents a real case of cavat empeteur! Service is non-existent! Sevice representative will not make any kind of adjustment. Their help is limited to useless suggestions about using different woods. Finnaly they would not answer calls or e-mails! What a bunch of jerks! I have never dealt with such a useless and negative company reps for such an expensive item. I get much superior service from computer or appliance companies that sell much less expensive items. It appears this industry seems to be insulated from their customers to a great degree. Vermont Castings has been another great example of non-existent service for their in past, poor products. I understand it is improving, but I wouldnt buy one of those either from what I have heard unless I talked to the factory reps and they could convince me.
I advise anyone buying a new wood or pellet stove to stay away from Breckwell!!!
