Likes: Nice looking stove.

Dislikes: Makes all kind of noise when the non-cat damper is engaged. It is a very low rumbling noise that is not at all enjoyable in my living room. The glass is impossible to keep clean. You can keep the soot on the glass down to a dull cloud if you keep the fire hot but if you fill it up and turn it down for the night you will wake up to a totally black, completely covered glass. Not impressed.
This is all just inconvenience but my last con is a deal breaker. The stove will glow read in the back when the non-cat damper is closed and the refractory chamber is in full operation. I thought at first when I saw the red back that there must be a defect in my stove. I talked to Chris at Vermont Casting and was told that this is normal and that they are in the process of sending a memo out to the dealers. I told Chris that in no way am I comfortable with a stove that has parts that are so hot that they glow. Glowing cast parts means problems, warping, cracks or burn through. I can't believe that they are willing to state that glowing is part of normal operation. I am in the process of getting this stove out of my house. Had this issue been stated in the manual I would have never bought it and the dealer stated that had they known this, they would have never sold me this stove.
If you are looking a nice looking stove that will not see much use you might like this stove but if are looking for a work horse stove to heat your home and last for many years KEEP SHOPPING.
