Likes: Superb construction, excellent burn characteristics. Really throws out the heat. Once hot, loaded with wood and dampened all the way down, the unit will burn 12 hours with just enough coals to restart again. In fact, the unit heats the entire house with being installed downstairs in the family room. With 20 degree weather outside, the upstairs in the bedroom area is 65 degrees. The family room being 74 degrees. No smoke escapes when re-fueling if you follow the simple instructions (first fully open the draft for a minute, then crack the door for a 10-15 seconds). The glass stays very clean other then on the lowest burn setting. But after about an hour or so on high draft, the glass clears right up. Construction, design and operation is exceptional!

Dislikes: Wish the firebox was a little larger. At 1.4cf, you have to do some arranging with smaller pieces to really pack the thing full of wood if you wish for an overnight burn.

Comments: Actually purchased and installed in January of 2007. After an exhaustive review of many manufacturers I came to the conclusion that the Regency Hearth Heater was the best choice. The dealer where I eventually purchased has several burning display units from Regency and other companies, so I was able to actually operate them. The Hearth Heater was selected because of clearly superior construction and design and offering a nice cook top and greater surface area for radiant heating. The dealer did a first class job installing the unit. I am very pleased with the Regency Hearth Heater. I am also very thankful I went with my gut instinct after looking closely at Lopi, Vermont, Hearthstone, Quadrafire, Jotul and others. The Regency will undoubtedly serve well for many years to come.
