Likes: Great modern looks. HUGE glass gives great view of fire and throws lots of heat. Very easy to light, and good control of the fire once it's going. Very well designed and built. Generally a joy to use. Ash pan system works great.

Dislikes: The firebox is smaller than it looks, just under 1.2 cu ft. It's not really a good round-the-clock heater due to the small floor area of the firebox. It's generally best to burn a couple pieces at a time and load about every 90 minutes.

There is one serious design flaw. The front panel below the firebox bowed out on mine within a couple weeks of use, causing a serious air leak around the door. The distributor offered to send me a new "shell" (I would have to do the labor) but it would just happen again so why bother. So I drilled and tapped two machine screws through the shell into the stove body, just like the ones around the rest of the firebox opening. That removed the bulge and solved the problem, and it's held up fine. Why they didn't do this at the factory is puzzling.

Comments: The X33 is the predecessor to the current R33 model and they are identical except for very minor differences in the exterior sheet metal. I bought mine from a dealer closure sale, hence the great price. Mine came with the remote control option installed. It works great for tweaking the fire from your seat, but I find myself not using it much.

The combustion system of this stove is a very clever, effective, and well thought out design, built with high quality materials, and will clearly last a long time if not abused. The construction quality shows the attention to detail that we've come to expect from European stoves.

The big glass front stays remarkably clean and throws an enormous amount of heat forward and does so quickly, which I really like.

I use the X33 to heat my 1000 sq ft workshop in the basement and it is perfect for the job. It replaced a Jotul F602 CB which was too small. I originally had the X33 upstairs heating 1100 sq ft with higher ceilings but it was slightly undersized for that.
