Price. The unit is a sleek modern design. Most other contemporary inserts of it\'s kind were just way out of our price range (and lots of crummy looking ones were more expensive too). It looks good, Is easy to use, gives off great heat, big glass door stays pretty soot free so you can see the fire well.
The unit takes 16\" logs maximum. To be safe, and for convenience I\'d keep it down to 14\". Only a couple of big logs fit in at a time. Instructions for starting a fire are limited but also manage to be confusing. The unit actually works very easily. Just put in paper, kindling and logs. Light a match, close the door, and off you go.
We love this unit. It starts easily. Burns with a beautiful flame. It\'s easy to adjust the burn rate and you seem to get a lot of flame and heat from each log. We heartily recommend it to anybody. Scan are now making their US stoves at the Jotul factory in Maine (instead of Denmark), so that\'s another plus.
