Likes: Very well constructed unit. This was the 8491 Model and I actually purchased the unit in 2010. Reversible flue collar is a big plus. Installation instructions were OK. Large viewing area. Heat is soft and even. Adjustable blower motor can be set low for almost no sound. Unit stays warm for long time period after burn completed. When issues were discovered during installation, manufacturer was responsive (working through my dealer) in fixing those issues.

Dislikes: At high fans speeds, and at high burn rate, and with the right draft condition. the fan or sheet metal heat shield rattles. I understand there is a fix for this problem, but I have not taken the time to contact dealer to order/install this retro fix. Also, the fan is fairly noisy at it highest setting, but the fan can be adjusted to a "no-noise" setting. The air damper adjustment lever could be designed to operate smoother. The adjustment is kind of "herky-jerky." Also the adjustment lever is so small that it is difficult to achieve a repeat setting.

Comments: I am most satisfied with the Clydesdale. While it can put out a lot of heat if needed, it can be adjusted to produce a comfortable, low, even amount of heat. The unit is expensive, but I think the price is justified by its performance/quality. I was very pleased with how quickly ChimneySweepOnline resolved some manufacturing issues. If a buyer is interested in a top-of-the-line insert, and can use the 60,000 BTUs the Clydesdale can produce, I strongly recommend this product.
