Top loading, open fire with screen, long burn time.
Fragile fireback and secondary burn chamber. Had to upgrade to redesigned interior.
I was concerned that VC has lost all consumer confidence due to the constant negative remarks I saw in the forum on this site. I did as suggested and reviewed the Ratings here and was surprised to find that by far the majority of customers are happy with their stoves. That has been my experience as well. I burned the Acclaim every day of the winter for 7 years and was very satisfied. I never let the stove go out! It gave me 7-8 hours of heat and was easy to load and operate. I did have to rebuild the stove with a redesigned fireback and secondary combustor. All cast iron stoves are subject to internal damage so I didn't find this out of the ordinary. When compared to what the electric base board heat was costing me I didn't object to the repair costs and I am mechanically inclined and had no difficulty handling the repair. The Acclaim was an overall good experience. I have since moved from that house and am considering installing a gas burning unit in my new house. VC is in the running.
