My ecobee thermostat and I'm sure others, tracks runtime.
I would go with the biggest insert you can fit in there. Mine is 2.3 ft3 firebox for 2000 ft2 for a 8 year old house and could always use more.
Stupid question, but are you using your blower fan?
Headlamps are nice, also for outside this time of year.
It'd be nice if we had a stove rather than an insert for the power outage aspect.
If there are so many coals you can hardly put any wood in, and the weather is cold so you need the heat.
Shouldn't the existing or maybe a new wood stove keep up with that? Could a boiler be overkill, or is it distributing the heat over the 1800 ft2?
5/8 closed was likely not enough with the drier/different wood. You don't normally use the insert with the fan on?
I've talked about this before, but I moved some wood from the driveway into the garage using the trashcan/hand truck method, and I took a couple of...
I woke up to a bunch of coals too, and it's not even Christmas. I poked the coal bed to get air in there and opened up the air. Temp at the...
My HI300 replaced a Quad 2700i.
Too late now, but I wonder if you could've squeezed in a HI300
I used an electric stapler to staple down 6 mil plastic on a pile on the driveway, and it held up in the wind. I've taken some wood off an end and...
Secondary air intake hole? I don't really hear it but other HI300 people have.
I just put the Hakkas on my wife's car and they're looking like there's only one season left on 'em. I don't think I got too many miles out of them.
Here's a link to that handy spreadsheet:
Propane is just as, or more, expensive as oil here.
The snows got a light workout on the way in to work today. Everybody should have them, arrrggghh.
NY would just as soon just dump globs of salt and...
I'm not so sure if it's economic to burn purchased wood if natural gas is available. Just sayin'.
As a fellow hi300 owner, let me know how the rheostat thing goes.
For me, the coal bed gets high and you can't squeeze much wood in there. This is for cold days.
I think I'm in the high fan speed camp. But that could change at any time. :)
It could seem that you'd be wasting wood if you didn't have it on...
I did that this morning. For me it's about reducing the coals, but I don't know if this helps or not.
Thanks for the link.
This is the outfit that is in the Carolinas? I got the feeling it was part of some university business incubator thingy, not that there's anything...
It's tough managing the coals situation when trying to keep cranking out the heat on the cold days.
Level. An advantage of splitting small is being able to get them in there with big coal bed.
I had a tube drop down recently on my HI300, but they're only friction fit. I never had a clip-secured tubes on my Quad. Stay warm.
Maybe it worked some, but it would take a long time. Try what Pants said first.
The thermo snap switch has to be in good contact with the stove body. Maybe it's bracket has to be bent or something. That's what happened with...
