I start with the bottom door open a little and the bypass open.
I light my fire and close the upper door and turn on the fan.

I went with 8 inches. The ash can fits right under the bottom door. I works

I have a tarm but if you are looking for alot of BTUs I think the econburn is a gasifier
that goes up to 1 million BTUs.
