Assuming the floor will hold, getting air flow under the wood stacks will be awesome.
Hopefully there'll be plenty of gaps in the floorboards
wouldn't be surprised if all the oil is made in the same place and private labeled
ie the 29 pounder takes away enough speed to more than negate the mass and therefore reduces impact energy. Not to mention the loss in control and...
My "uglies" by their nature have greater cross section and longer drying times. Throw them aside and leave 'em longer
like others, I throw them in the corner of the woodshed or toss them on top of the stacks. I bring them in a few at a time with regular splits....
My question would be where the moisture form the wood went.
If the condensate ran down the inside of the shed to the ground out side of the bottom...
just a few miles away in Nassau. Started with 4 and down to 1/3.
We'll go thru a lot this weekend
mine is in a shed but with all the snow I can't use my wheelbarrow.
Now using a kids plastic sled, works well but I need twice as many loads
I'd increase the rear overhang to at least 8"
Mine has a short rear overhang and during a downpour the runoff "sucks in" and gets the rafter ends...
Subtract about 2hrs per cord for moving in from woods ad stacking.
This year I logged all my hours.
Fell ( in woods), limb and buck, hand split, move from woods to shed and stack in shed.
Average 16 hrs per cord....
Have a similar setup here near Albany and burn about 1 gal/day for HW.
How is the Electric HW heater working out for you?
seriously, stop splitting when you notice that you're tiring and losing aim and accuracy
aka ; Aiming fluid
like the way it's all stacked when he's done. If he split it next to the wood pile it would be the height of efficency
get two ,they cant cost much
Do you have to see a Doctor if the fire lasts more than four hours?
nails are no problem. Just be careful where you dump your ashes
48 hrs! this will outlast all of us with a little TLC
Started with the cold snap in early November ( a little early for me), about 2/3 cord gone
Putting energy into drying firewood so that you can burn it to save energy raises questions. ie cost ( to somebody)
Is it a full cord or face cord?...
One of those cute little Fiskars
Elle - be aware that some online splitting videos are incompetent and verge on dangerous
When your shoulders get stronger and your swing gets smoother you'll be able to get the same head speed with an 8# and benefit from 33% more impact...
run a small fire for a a few hours to heat the steel slowly to prevent cracked welds
with the new EPA stoves I think viewing the fire is important to making adjustments and managing the fire
Also better than most of what's on cable
start slow and get comfortable with the saw on easy pieces. Csaws are powerful but easily manageable with practice.
Knots is right - I'm 64 and been...
With the 4' dia clumps, I'd save the straightest healthiest looking one and let it live off the root system of the others you've made into firewood....
On my lot, I've got a similar mix with parts overgrown.
A useful guide is to look up when the leaves are gone, if you see two trees interfering with...
agree, years ago I had sawmill ends and it's impossible to stack without flat/flat contact which is like puttiing splts back together.
I'd leave it...
