Does anyone own this splitter? Looking for their opinion on it. I burn about 4 cords a year..I. want American made and the price is good.any feedback would be helpfully..thanx

They're a bit pricey for what they are IMO. You can pick up a Speeco/Tractor Supply Huskee 22 ton unit for a couple hundred less. Or you could get one of I & O's 22 ton Horz/vert units. The 15 ton is limted in both that it does not do vertical splitting (for larger rounds) and it only accepts 18" logs. If the limtations and price tag don't bother you then the 15 ton IS a very well built machine and doesn't take up nearly as much storage space.

While I don't often raise my MTD vertical, I still prefer the wedge on ram. A wedge on beam pushes the wood away and you need to bring it back to resplit.

My splitter has the trunion mounted ram like what's on the 15 ton unit. Some folk don't like trunion mounts and have seen them fail. They tend to exert a sideways force on the seal as well.
