new to site . does anyone know if i can reduce 8 inch hot air duct down too 6 inch where it enters my plenum because my main trunk line is only 8 inches tall. thanks
 
Your reducing the line quite a bit. Not only would it stress the blower, it could cause the furnace to overheat. I've ran many 8" ducts into trunk that's 8" thick.
 
8" round duct is around 48 sq inches, 6" is 27 sq inches, almost half. That means almost half the airflow too...
 
This would be a counterproductive idea ..even the 8 is on the small side they should have used dual 8s like the hotblast or a big 10"
