Seems that stovetop likes to stay around 550, which is plenty to heat the house. 'Course, I was hoping for snow this weekend to test things out but was disappointed.

Also still need to relearn fire management... this thing burns totally different than the dragon.

Ok here's all you need to know about burning in your new stove:

•Burn a beer can to keep the chimney clean
•Stick a green round in there with each load to slow the burn
•Never burn pine
•A good hot controlled chimney fire will clean that chimney in no time
•Cut split and stack all your wood for the winter in October
•Just put one or two splits on the fire at a time
•Never take advise front anyone named Bart

Stick to these foundational truths and you'll be warm all winter long.

Dang, I'm not doing any of these things. No wonder the house is cold all the time.

Werd.

Except for the beer can, that pretty much describes me two years ago.

Bluedogz - what dragon did you replace? How much space are you heating? and is that an 8" flu/chimney- how tall?

I am picking up a 30 soon to replace my VC Defiant and would like to get more details as you go through the learning curve with the new stove because I think we are in a similar set up.

Nice looking hearth by the way.

Bob

He used to burn an old Sierra.
House size is 2600SF
Just relined with 6" flex.
Around 30' tall, I forget exactly, lol and I helped him install it LOL
That hearth gets no justice from the photos, it is beautiful and the room it is in is very cool.
Hogs why didn't you help the man with his clearance non issues while you were there.

I only took care of the tough stuff...
;-)

I was all worth every nickel and minute, I think. House is steady at 74, secondaries are churning on only my second load of the day... I'm gonna go for an all-nighter tonight and see what happens.

I am gonna close this one and let the traffic go to Blue's other thread on the subject.
