8" to a 6"??

Is it safe to install and 8" rear exhaust and krimp the exit pipe down to a 6" thimble? I know probably not ideal but found a cheap rear exit sierra that needs painting but other than that in good condition.
 
Against code in most places.
 
Correct, generally not allowed, though sometimes there are exceptions. Safety has a lot to do with lots of factor, venting is just one of them. Tell us more about your setup and what you are trying to accomplish and we can help better.

What's the current chimney height and condition? What would be the plan for this installation, full stainless liner? How close are the nearest combustibles?, etc. etc.
