I've read in various articles about using acoustical sealant for different purposes, such as sealing a poly vapor barrier, sealing penetrations through a barrier in a crawlspace, etc. Bruce Harley's book "insulate and Weatherize" talks about using acoustical sealant, but I can't seem to find it around town. I've checked both Lowes and 84 Lumber, and no luck. Any suggestions?

I just spotted some in Menards if you have one of those around. It was only available in the large tubes, located in amongst the tubes of adhesive.

No Menards around here. Do you know what is so different about acoustical sealant compared to other sealants and adhesives?

I don't know for sure. I was recently helping a BIL work on a new church where they used it on the edges of all the vapor barrier. It is some sticky stuff. I think that it also stays soft and sticky and doesn't harden like some other caulks.

I have not seen the stuff for years. Wondering where it all went to?

What type of caulking would be the next closest thing?
