Hello All, Just stumbled upon your site while crawling the web for info, And it looks like this is the place to get my question answered, so thank-you.

I want to get a Wood Insert to supplement my oil, My fireplace is centrally located in a series of 4 rooms that are all open to each other and consist of 1500 sq. ft.

The only reason I am looking at the VC stoves is because I know someone selling a brand new, never used CW2500x insert, for 1400$ includes blower and surround, bought last year he said for 1700$

I noticed VC has a CJW2500X, anyone tell me what the difference is?

Also VC has DW2500X listed in their catalog, which I called a dealer and they gave me the price of 1099$ new today. (includes blower and surround)

What I can't get for info from any dealer is the difference between the 3 stoves and why the price difference is so big between the CW and DW

Well I just got off the phone with a dealer and was told the CW isn't made anymore and they have a "winter warm series" But from what I noticed from VC's catalog, the Winter Warm series is a different animal than the DW2500. He also tried to tell me the CW and DW are the same except the CW had a cast iron front where the DW doesn't, Does that warrant a 700$ difference?

I am looking for a basic insert (no frills) Is the DW2500 going to do the job? If the front on the CW is cast iron, should i spend a extra 400$ for it.

Also every store I have gone into that sells all the other brands all start at 2000$ and go up, What is the big difference?

Thanks all, Rick

Do a search on the VC DW2500 on this site, several of us have had that model and have had some problems with it.... I'm sure Elk or the Weather Guesser will chime in here shortly..

There were some serious weld failures on these stoves reported this year. I would not get one based on the apparent vunerablity of this design unless it has been rectified. Or if you get a better price and are adept at welding and can fashion a safer support system for the bottom of the firebox.

If you are trying to find an inexpensive new insert perhaps consider the Englander 13 NCI instead.
