    I'm told, not without a lot of stabilization and then it's a gamble. I don't have a lathe so I may just fine sand it as is and then oil it down.

    I would bet a weeks paycheck on it working!

    Try hand sanding first. If you have access to a pneumatic random orbital sander (2'), it would be your easiest route (harbor Freight has 'em for $30)

    I've got an inspector like that who comes around my place. He hammers on the Aluminum flashing on the house, drives the little lady crazy. I laugh cuz I figure he's showing off trying to "get some" She doesn't see it that way.
