Plenty more birch to get back still, got 3 more decent bits back today but the rain stopped play, so cut it and will split and stack tomorrow morning.

Cutting here is a bit basic as we are not allowed to use chainsaw except on our own property......

First load ready to go:

Cut and ready to split.
I have left this in the shed overnight as it's now raining:

But at least I added to the stack whilst the sun was out:

I'll leave the birch tomorrow as a new trail has been cut, and children have rolled some logs into a streambed.

Time to do my bit for the community and remove them all to a safe place:

Based on that past picture I think I wanna go wood scrounging in England.

What is the deal with no chainsaws? Noise or pollution or liability?

Gary

Them stacks are almost as pretty as Backwood Savage!

It's community woodland behind our house.

Only the wardens are allowed to use chainsaws there, otherwise people would turn up from everywhere and just saw down good trees.

Fortunately, I'm the only person next to the woodland with a woodburner.

Most folks see me out there and decide it looks like hard work getting the wood in, and I have it all to myself.

Suits me fine ;-)

Do you sit on top of the log and peddle to bring your log home? There's a joke in there somewhere.... Amazing to me how much physical work folks do to get their wood. I have a tractor and a winch at I know after 6 hours of that, I'm sore.

It's a pushbike, I cycle out and just push it home......... ;-)

woodchip, my hat is off to you. That is some hard work getting wood like that.

I also endorse the low tech method of wood gathering.I live modestly and have cut lots of wood-deadfalls, birch, alder and some saskatoon bush. It is very satisfying to gather wood, out in the fresh air, with bow saw and axe, did quite a bit this fall. I considered this also as part of my daily exercise-being retired. :lol:Last summer I went out with chainsaw and cut douglas fir :cheese:

My dad bought a chain saw after I left home.
Bow saws work left & right handed :)
I had a wheel barrow not a bike to haul it.
Your saw has a fancy knuckle protector.... nice :)
Great pictures. Nice looking wood.
Good job.
