I don't know what this is, exactly. It appears to be some sort of olive relative and is fairly popular as an ornamental tree in my neck of the woods. There's plenty available and I'm picking it up.

The wood is a gorgeous deep yellow/orange color. Any idea what it is exactly?

Looks like Cherry to me, Leaves, bark and dark orange meat.
 
Looks like an ornamental cherry of some kind. Did you cut it with a chisel?
 
Wow, split some, smell it and post more pics of the splits.....thanks...
 
Yep, any fruitwood burns nicely when seasoned.
