    Looking at one of these as a gift and out of the box it seems prey nice, the wood on the handle neede a coat or three of oil.

    Does anyone have any advice?

    don't use boiled linseed.....will be sticky.
  3. I've used mineral oil to keep the wood preserved. It has to be applied periodically but keeps the wood from getting too dry and cracking. I often use it on my wood handled garden tools but have also used it successfully on the few wood handled kitchen knives I own. It soaks into the wood well but is not slippery or slimey once it penetrates.

    The only "kitchen" knife I own says Leatherman on teh side of it. ;)
