I've been trying different pellets in the new Lopi AGP insert, and have a specific topic on the brands going in the Pellet Reviews section. This is a more general question.

One brand of pellets makes more ash for cleaning chores. The pellets burn well with no sudden noises from the stove.

The other two look like they're longer pellets, and the stove is making that "clunk" you all describe that sounds like the auger is crushing a pellet. But these pellets don't make much ash.

So what's better for your stove/pellet? Clean out more ashes with a smooth burn, or less ashes, but more auger crushing?

that clink is from the rotary disk that feeds the auger on the AGP, it has a dedicated blade on it to cut the longer pellets and is not really a worry afaik I personally would opt for less ash you may need to replace the blade every few years but less ash equates to easier and less frequent cleanings There is a thread somewhere here that is not too old that has pictures of the blade and disc

*EDIT* here is the thread
