Backup power supply

I just joined the group and looked for a post about a backup power supply , I didn't see one so I'll ask.

If you have a backup, for your pellet stove what is it ? Will a car battery with an inverter work and if so about how long will it run.

Also if you have a thermostat, how well does that work for you ?

I was paying $285 a month every month for equal billing for propane , I just ordered 5 tons of pellets for $230 a ton delivered. During the winter I paid $2569 a ton.
