Big Hydraulic saw...

I work for a tree company that does fire wood. I'm in the planning stage of making a saw to cut the trunk to size. problem is that I have to have a 40 inch bar. I have an old loader chassis to run the saw, I just never screwed around with hydraulic saws. Anybody mess around with this stuff?

Wow... 40" on a loader hydraulic pump. Harvester chain?

Anybody know where or who makes this? Is that a electric saw or hydraulic saw? I got an old log loader chassis that has a 2 section pump and it has a 3208 cat engine. I should have plenty of power but I need more info on this. Thanks

I called him, he doesnt think I can run more than a 36 in bar. I need at least 40, 44 would be better. The blade he is using is HUGE!

You know as neat as that is in the vid with the hydraulic saw I gotta saw that is probably no faster than what I can do with my grapple and the Solo. Especially if your bucking in the 24" size I'll bet its slower. In the time it takes him to dump a load into that conveyor and go through the motions with the machine I could just pick up a log and saw it into lengths in short order.

This is why I need a fast cutting hydraulic 44 in saw, danzco guy says he can only go up to 36. Is there a way to do it with an electric motor?

Only place a hydraulic saw would payoff is in very high use. Day in day out continuos sawing. As for power to run it. I would start with the hyd motor that would meat specs and do the math for hyd pressure and volume vs hp.

I don't see why not. A 25 horse 3600 rpm industrial motor would be awesome if you had 3-phase, and way more efficient than any other method. Harvester sprockets can be mounted with QD bushings so a straight keyed shaft will work well. If you don't have three phase you will likely need to run a generator. Not going to be cheap though.
Oops, just looked at Danco's specs, you probably want a 50 hp electric motor, for maximum production. Big, heavy, expensive motor.
Last forever though, and very cheap to run.
