Black Birch?

Pin cherry is very light weight. Think pine-type density...
 
Its Pin Cherry, the wood smells like licorice and will darken like regular Black cherry. Its also called Fire Cherry, its a pioneer tree, like Aspen, it grows on disturbed sites. Like abandoned farm fields, excavated sites etc.
The bark is very similar to Plum, and wild plum, another stone fruit.
