I am still waiting for my insert so just going over everything. I am going to put the block off plate. Can I put it in the damper frame area? I was thinking 2 pieces of metal in a moon shape. One on each side of the pipe. Rivet them together. I was also going to use high temp silicon between the plate and the frame.

Other question is I was going to stuff some Roxul on top of the plate. Does it matter how much I put? It comes with 12 pieces. Can I just use all of them? I have no other uses for it so it is either that or throw away.

This is an interior chimney if that matters.

Your plan sounds fine though you will have a hard time stuffing more than a batt or two of Roxul above the plate.
