Well it is absolutely freezing with that wind out today its about darn time. I got my first wiff of cold crisp winter air and my heart started racing I smiled and no joke a bird fell dead at my feet ! That actually happened ! Sorry but I did not have my phone for a picture but I figured it was worth a laugh ;lol. I felt bad for the bird though:(

At 4 pm today it was 62, unheard of in these parts. Temp is currently 38 in the pouring rain which is supposed to turn to wet snow flurries over night. High is to be 32 tomorrow. Cutting wood today was actually uncomfortable this afternoon.. Bring it on.

One day a woman called me and asked if I would come to her office. Went over and she showed me a bird in obvious distress. On her window sill. Eight floors up and she wanted me to do something about it.

I taped a piece of paper over the window so she couldn't see the bird.

Hehheh . . . I was telling my wife the other day that often times the way a guy deals with a problem is to just hide it . . . scratch in the wood flooring -- cover it with a throw rug, rust spot on the car -- stick a bumper sticker on it, etc.

I have done some crazy things for a good employee but climbing up the side of an eight floor building to save a dying sparrow was not going to happen. Had to let that "Come on BB, do some of that manager stuff!" kick in.

Post Script: Two days later Diane came in and told me that she hit a bird on the way to work. And it was stuck in her grill. "Why do I keep killing birds?". She was seriously frantic. I went and took the damned bird out of the grill. On the ground. Something had fetched the one off of window ledge in the night.

Well, how about another injured bird story?

Several years back I was driving the community volunteer-staffed ambulance back from the hospital with our crew chief when a partridge (ruffled grouse) flew out of nowhere and right into the ambulance. It hit hard and bounced off it . . . at which point the crew chief yelled "Stop the rig!"

I jammed on the brakes and the crew chief went running out to the bird . . . moving faster than I had ever seen him. He lovingly scooped up the bird and started running back to the rig. At this point I was thinking it was odd, but figured maybe he was planning on working on the bird in the back of the ambulance . . . thought maybe he was a bird lover.

Nope . . . he hopped up in the front and was all smiles . . . "Now I have dinner for tonight" he proclaimed . . . before adding that a partridge just a week or so before had flown into the grill of his truck and had broke it, but somehow escaped . . . or at least he never found that one for dinner.

I took some stuff out to the hunting blind this morning and also took down the trail cams. Had to cover my ears because of the cold. Felt good though. A little more snow this morning but not much overall.
