Building a corner surround

I am toying with the idea of building a soapstone shelf to sit above my stove and enclose my stove alittle. My house is concrete block so I am not worried about the heat factor. I picked up @ 300 lbs of broken soapstone and put it in back of my old plate steel stove and it works great as a heat sink. I want to make that corner look nice and be something different then just brick and get more of a heat sink.
