In The Woods
I usually clean the ashes out on Sunday but did it tonight, the coals in the back right are from last nights fire. The ashes in the pail are for one week of burning mostly cherry.

How the heck do you seperate the coals so well? I could only do that if I was getting the marshmallows out of lucky charms.

Last year being our first year burning wood I used it more early on because I didn't rake the coals forward at first. This year we burn down the coals and use it once a week.

I let it pile up till it's close to the top of the lip for the door. I have always found the fire to hold heat/burn better in a bed of ashes.

Likewise.
