buying the liner.....but some questions on connectors

Getting ready to order a liner kit. it comes with a t connection. I need a connection to the top of my insert. What piece am I looking for? And how do I connect it to the stove and to the liner? Lets complicate this. I'm going to ovalize an 8 inch liner to get thru a 6x14 chimney.

Every liner seller I have ever talked to, including the ones on eBay, would all substitue an insert connector in place of the the tee. Just whack the liner back to round at the top of the insert. You do it just like you are boxing a dummies ears.

Whack, whack, whack and it goes right back to round.

A bazillion dollar one from Hart's Hearth or you buy a big ass rectangular one for thirteen bucks at ACE Hardware and trim it.

Hey... you guys are thinking. I will see if they can substitute the piece for me. that would make it easier. and the trimming of the brush...Geeze. I wouldn't have thought of that.

To unovalize the end here's a great trick. Stick a 2x6 in the end and twist it around until some of the ovalization is removed. Then, stick a 2x8 in there and twist it around. You'll be surprised how unflexible flex pipe is, and you'll like that you can grab onto each side of the 2x8 and get leverage while hopefully someone's holding the liner. I had to repeatedly pull back, get ready, and crank with all my might to remove a little more until I finally was able to start twisting the 2 x's around.

Gotta say thanks guys. The seller is substituting the stove starter for the tee. Saves me some cabbage and some time chasing down parts. if the weather is good, I'll likely do it next weekend. That gives me time to get everything prepared, get the chimney cleaning tools I need so I can give it a proper cleaning.......by the way....my kids and wife have heard things falling in the chimney...or so they say. they thought there was a critter in there first. My guess is that the crusty crap they didn't get when they "cleaned" the chimney was loosened and some of it is falling down onto the smokeshelf and on the stove.

Thanks, but I have all I can handle right now. Guy right around the corner from me has 5 white oak trunks each about 16 fee long and 1.5-2 feet thick stacked in his yard....he had 6 but took one of them already. he is more than happy to have me come get them but conservatively I have 7 cord stacked in the back yard right now. As soon as I get my liner in I will start doing small fires on cool nights just because I can.

Good luck with the liner install. I can tell ya, you ain't gonna believe the difference when that the improved draft starts sucking air through that App insert. That cat is going to have a field day.

After 21 years with my old hoss I truly believe that I am going to be learning how to run a whole nother stove this season. I will find out Friday night when the cold and wet from this cold front hits.
