So this morning I woke up to find the living room chilly! After a brief pause to shiver I realized that the stove is off. It must have been pretty cold last night and just kept on running, so needless to say there were no pellets left in it. So I took this opportunity to actually clean the stove for the first time. Pretty simple actually, emptied ash pan, scrapedthe burn pot, vacuumed, cleaned the glass etc.
Here is where I ask my stupid question, since I am a new owner of this stove(tuesday install) I have yet to start this thing. My wife was here when it got installed and they started it for her, it has been burning ever since. So my question(s) are:
On startup I followed the directions, but it seemed like a really long time for the igniter to even try to light(is that normal?) and from your perspectives which is the best way to start this up. I followed the printed out directions on the door, but it just seemed like it took forever. Maybe this is normal, which is fine but I need to know so I know what to expect or if there is an issue I need to address. Any help would be appreciated. You guys got me this far so I'd rather get it from you than the dealer. Tks

What do you mean by "forever?" Harman's will light from a cold start - ONCE the burnpot is full - in anywhere from about 2.5 to 8 minutes. You can speed this up a little by turning the feed dial to test for a minute or two to get the burnpot loaded...When you cleaned her did you clear under the burnpot in the igniter cavity? Did you also make sure the burnpot holes were clear? 12 ga romex wire works very well for those holes...

should take about 5 minutes to light, assuming the auger is primed. If you had run it dry and don't prime the auger (by placing the unit into test mode until you can see some pellets enter the burnpot) it could take a bit to get going. Then its about another 3-4 minutes until the distribution blower kicks in.

This is not a gas stove. Please read the entire manual then watch the video. If the stove did not come with the video go to harmanstoves.com and watch the video. Congrats on your new Harman.

Ok then that was the problem. I didn't put it into test mode. It took about 10 minutes for it to light. I was sitting there staring at it and it sounded like it was loading pellets but nothing happened. I ran out to take my son to the bus and when I came back in the fire was blazing away. Thanks guys, just wanted to make sure this was the norm!

    I hear ya :)

How'd you like the ash vac? Pretty nice huh? I hung a single pouch tool belt bag off mine. Holds all my brushes, scrapers, glass cleaner, etc. One nice self contained unit.

Loved it. That thing was great. Was done with all of it in like 2 minutes. Very efficient and well worth the money.

And from this we learned to fill the hopper before going to bed or be prepared to have a chilly start to the day, I hope.

After I did this a time or two, never ran out again. I just got into the routine of filling hopper before leaving for work and when I get back home.

I have a totally different stove, but have encountered a similar problem. My dealer told me to take a handful of pellets and put them in the pot, which works for me. Will that work for a Harman?

Our Fleet Farm sells the small ash vacs but does NOT carry the filters for them. They carry the filters for a totally different ash vac that they don't even sell. morons...

I'm assuming he's referring to replacement filters. Amazon ;) Prob a good idea to have one on hand although I imagine the original one would last a looong time. Just bang it out outside.

Does seem silly that yer local store wouldn't carry the proper replacement but that's likely not the only vac they sell. Who knows, it might fit regardless. Remember, it's made in China.
