I have spent the last two years sizing my splits - 4-6 inches and 20 inches long to stack the castine to the baffles for good overnight burns. My other wood was 12 inches for an old fisher, which I loved but consumed wood as if there was no tomorrow.
It has not been cold enough here to load up with the longer splits, but wondering what folks do with smaller stoves do to maximize the overnight burn, I rake coals forward at night before loading and it has worked well but I have never sized the wood to fill up the box of the stove. Thoughts appreciated.
