So, my Quadrafire has served me well since last February (2010). After about 1 ton last year, I did my best in what I could figure out as a "Full Cleaning". This year, I am another ton in, and ready to do it again, but have this sinking feeling that I'm not getting to everything I realistically need to.

My process:
-Vacuum firebox thoroughly (do this every week at a min)
-Burn pit scraping & cleaning of all holes (do this every week at a min)
-Remove two heat exchange tube covers and vacuum/brush the exchange tubes (it only looks like I realistically get to half of the tube, but i reach down w/ a paintbrush) (do this every week at a min)
-Remove two cleanout doors that sit in the back of the firebox.. This lets me get all ash that the heat exchange scrapers push down, and lets me see the exhaust fan, but not really clean it too well. (do this every other week)
-Sweep the chimney from inside w/ 20' lint eater brush. (did this after 1 ton)

My question.. Is this it?

Or is there stove disassembly that is more complex than this which I need to do? ie: Pull the stove out and complete disassemble on my living room floor?

Any help would be great...

Thanks..Happy New Year..

PAV,

I don't have a Quad so some of this might not apply.....

I would consider a deep cleaning to include:

Removal and clean of both blowers. Combustion and Convection.
Clean out the full combustion path. From fire box to vent pipe.
Run a vent cleaner up the full length of the vent.
Remove and clean any vacuum hoses
Vacuum out the back of the stove (mine gets a lot of pet hair)
Clean the interior of the stove (behind and under the hopper)
Lubricate what needs it (blowers, auger motor, etc?)
Check door, ash drawer, hopper seals (Dollar Bill test)

All of that in addition to what you do weekly.

I pull my stove out to the front porch and use compressed air to blow it really clean.

My deep cleaning takes about 1-1/2 hours every ton of pellets or so. It makes a huge difference.

A clean stove is a happy stove and a warm house :)
Good Luck,

Yep, I agree with all that nailer said, especially removing the combustion blower to wirebrush & scrape the vanes & motor plate, and also vacuum the air inlet of the convection blower.

With my santa fe I clean as follows :

1. Firepot everyday.
2. FireBox every few days.
3. Glass, when I clean the firebox.
4. Take out 2 back plates and use shop vac and clean the exchange tubes, After every ton
5. Exhaust Fan, 1-2 Times a season.
