Changing Door Gasket

I'm about to replace my door gasket. (my first time changing a door gasket) I have Home Saver Stove Gasket Cement. The directions say to moisten the gasket and metal with water. Is that necessary?

If so what's the best way for doing this?

It does help most silicate cements to stick to dampen the metal...I've never done it to the gasket itself, though.

I'd say just a piece of a rag or a paper towel - wet it slightly and wipe it mostly off.

Clean the surface real good with a wire wheel. The cement only sticks as good as the surface you apply it to. I hate that chit myself. Been using silicone and like it much better.

If you can take the door off and lay it flat, makes it a lot easier to pack it into the channel.
