Question:

need info on suppliers of coal stove chimney systems do-it-yourself installations - have old Victorian house with slate roof. any other suggestions on safety or pricing would be appreciated

Answer:

Most current brands of insulated chimney are built with a high grade interior liner which can use anthracite coal. Metalbestos and Excel are two widely known brands. Ask if they have a 316 stainless liner..the best for coal. Also, make certain you clean the chimney each spring after the burn season. Leaving the soot in over the humid summer will shorten the chimney life. Some sweeps even suggest putting a little baking soda (a base) down the chimney to offset the acid effect of the coal soot.
