We have a cast iron fireplace on the middle floor of a 3 story terrace house. It has a gas supply close by. We had the chimney swept yesterday and a basic smoke test which was passed satisfactorily (NACS). We want a gas fire fitting to the basket of the fireplace (high grate). The chimney sweep told us that the following work is required:
1. Seal between cast fireplace and marble surround.
2. Supply and fit gas burner to existing grate.
3. Full smoke test including checks to neighboring property.
Is this the right order of doing the work, in particular, is the smoke test done after the fitting (I assume it has to be if it’s gas being detected although there may be some way of simulating the burnt gases so this can be done before the supplying and fitting).
