I think it would be a good idea to somehow "seal" my hearth & chimney now while it is mint rather thatn wait until something gets spilled on it or smoke damage or whatever. Is this a good thought? Has anyone else done this to protect there investment? What is required to do this? I'm assuming you need to clean it really good first then seal it with something. What should I use to clean it then seal it?
