I have a buck model 81. I use this has a free standing unit and it comes standard with the fan built in. I usually only run it with the fan going but when I finally finish my basement I will probably run it a lot with the fan off. Can I expect the stove to keep the temps up in the basement with the fan off? The basement isn't very big, maybe 1000 sq ft.

If you are insulating the basement and the floorplan is open, then yes I think it will easily heat the space without the fan. Though I think you will find the heat stratifying at the ceiling. The stove blower can help mix up the air better because it's intake is low, closer to the floor. Or you could use a simple table fan on low speed, set on the floor on the opposite side of the basement, blowing cooler air toward the stove.
