The wintergreen might act as a preservative, though I really have no idea. Maybe species that don't rot, like black locust, might keep better under those conditions. Of course, nobody saws BL commercially, so that's probably not a practical suggestion. I think you might be ahead to try to store it in a way that it dries. Some people have tried that with chips, by putting some screen down over a base of pallets, pouring the chips down on it and blowing air underneath the pile. It's a challenge, no question about that.
