Do they even get big enough to flower and fruit before the blight sets in?
 
Scotty had a good thread about the chestnut trees a while back, very informative, too bad we lost so many of them, they're beautiful trees.

Looks a lot like a beech to me as well.
 
Bacffin that looks like American Chestnut. Note the elongated leaves with sharp pointed lobes. Beech has rounder shaped leaves withi similar pointed lobes, while Chestnut Oak has rounded, not pointed, lobes. Beech also has pointy buds at the ends of the twigs which I can't see in the picture.

Notice that you have several sprouts coming from what appears to be a small dead stump. That is how a lot of the American Chestnut around here grow.
 
Looks like there is much to this Beech-nut debate to chew on...
